The Baker Fire
(Martin Gilmore (Timtomtod music, ASCAP))
Frank Baker is a farmer on the other side of town
He’s never been a man to complain
But I was there the night that the baker house burned down
In the irony of the flame and the rain
I saw the lightning hit the building
I saw the flames tear it down
On that cold an rainy night
Soaked in the crimson light
Waiting for the firemen from the town
It was the night I realized that a house is more than home
More than a place to put your bed
More than your furniture or the things that you own
More than a roof over your head
It’s where your family and memories
Grow together as one thing
It’s where the Baker’s built their lives
We stood and watched the fire
And finally we heard the sirens ring
As children grow so do holes between the family
No one thinks the others understand
The things that they are going through or the way that they feel
And the bakers had these problems just the same
Some times it takes a fire
to burn away what is old and dead
And when the smoke had cleared
Everyone was in tears
Finally something all could understand
Frank Baker is a farmer on the other side of town
He’s never been a man to complain
But ever since the night that the Baker house burned down
Frank just hasn’t been the same
His family’s closer now
Than they’ve ever been before
Now house and a family
Close as they could ever be
Who could ask for anything more?
Frank Baker is a farmer on the other side of town
He’s never been a man to complain
But I was there the night that the Baker house burned down
In the irony of the flame and the rain
